SHEF Presents to Global Health Council
Roundtable discussions on the benefits of franchising reach key players in Washington
May 2003
SHEF has presented a technical seminar series titled "Engaging the Private Sector in Franchising for the Public Good" at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. SHEF has also conducted a roundtable discussion on drug pricing and access at the 30th Annual Conference of the Global Health Council.
"Using Franchises to Improve Access to Essential Medicines" introduced participants to the basics of a franchise operation, the potential role of a franchise operation in improving access to essential medicines in underserved populations, and the characteristics of a franchise operation established in a developing country.
Presented by CFWshops Executive Director Liza Kimbo, the discussion looked at how SHEF has established a franchise operation for the distribution of essential medicines and supplies.
About SHEF
Based in Minneapolis Minnesota, the Sustainable Healthcare Enterprise Foundation (SHEF) is improving access to basic health services and essential medicine, for children and their families in the developing world. SHEF accomplishes this by perfecting the franchise operating system of its CFWshops, and making the system available to other organizations and businesses throughout the developing world. The CFWshops are all located in Kenya Africa and a rapid expansion plan is underway to increase the number of shops throughout the country. SHEF is also launching a Medical Franchise Training Institute where organizations from around the world can learn how to adapt the CFWshops system to the needs of the communities where they operate.
